What Is IOP?
IOP stands for Intensive Outpatient Program.
It is a structured treatment option for teens who need more frequent clinical support than weekly therapy, while remaining safe at home and in their community outside program hours.
Care takes place during scheduled sessions. There is no overnight stay, and the treatment plan is shaped around the teen’s assessed needs.
Who May Benefit?
An assessment may be helpful when emotional or behavioral difficulties interfere with school, relationships, family life, or everyday functioning.
IOP may be considered when a teen needs additional structure and can safely participate in care while living at home.
A diagnosis or online self-test alone does not determine eligibility.
What Care May Include
The services included in a teen’s plan depend on clinical needs and confirmed program availability.
Therapeutic groups and guided opportunities to practice coping and communication.
Practical tools for coping with challenges, managing emotions, and communicating needs.
Individual and family care when indicated by the treatment plan.
Psychiatric evaluation or medication management when appropriate.
Safety planning, ongoing clinical reviews, and coordination with providers.
Planning for school participation and appropriate support beyond the program.
Scheduling & School
Altara is exploring morning and after-school IOP options. Final days, hours, and enrollment availability are not yet confirmed.
Morning sessions may overlap with school hours. Families should discuss attendance, transportation, and any needed school coordination.
The proposed after-school model is intended to support school participation when feasible. Dismissal, pickup, travel time, and individual schedules need review.
School coordination may occur with appropriate consent. Academic accommodations or modified schedules are determined by the school and are not guaranteed.
In-Person & Live Virtual Care
In-person and live virtual participation may be available if approved for the individual teen and permitted by applicable requirements and coverage.
Not every teen is eligible for virtual or hybrid care. Suitability and availability are reviewed before enrollment.

Family Involvement
Family participation may be part of the individualized treatment plan. The team can explain expectations and how caregivers can support care outside sessions.
Ask about consent, confidentiality, communication, and what information may be shared.
Getting Started
Ask about the assessment process and current availability.
The team reviews needs, history, safety, and daily functioning.
Discuss the appropriate level of care and available services.

Confirm program fit and discuss enrollment or other care options.
Planning What Comes Next
Planning for what comes next begins during treatment. As a teen is ready for less intensive support, recommendations may include outpatient therapy, medication management, family support, or coordination with existing providers.
Follow-up through Altara may be available when appropriate; otherwise, community referrals may be coordinated. Appointments and insurance arrangements require confirmation.
