What Is PHP?
PHP stands for Partial Hospitalization Program.
It is a more intensive scheduled daytime program for teens who need greater clinical support but can safely return home outside treatment hours.
PHP is not an overnight program. Care takes place during planned treatment hours and is guided by individual needs.
Who May Benefit?
PHP may be considered when a teen needs a higher level of structure than less intensive care can provide, while remaining safe at home outside program hours.
A clinical assessment determines whether PHP is appropriate and whether Altara can meet the teen’s needs.
A diagnosis or online self-test alone does not determine eligibility.
What Care May Include
Services depend on individual needs and confirmed program availability.
Structured group sessions and opportunities to practice coping and communication.
Guided practice to support emotional regulation and everyday challenges.
Individualized sessions and family involvement when indicated by the care plan.
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management when appropriate.
Safety planning, clinical reviews, and coordination with other providers.
Preparation for school needs, ongoing care, and the next level of support.
Daytime Scheduling & School
PHP generally overlaps with school hours. Families should discuss academic needs and scheduling before enrollment.
Altara is developing a weekday daytime model. Final days, attendance hours, clinical hours, and program availability will be confirmed before enrollment.
With appropriate consent, the team may coordinate with families and schools to discuss academic needs and transition plans.
School services and accommodations are determined by the school. Academic support, modified schedules, or homebound instruction are not guaranteed.
Care Formats
In-person and live virtual care may be considered when clinically appropriate and actually available. Not every teen or program is eligible.
Format depends on assessment, safety, location, staffing, applicable requirements, and insurance coverage.

Family Involvement & Going Home
Teens return home after treatment. The assessment considers whether they can remain safe outside program hours and what support is available at home.
Family participation may be part of the treatment plan. The team can explain consent, privacy, communication, and caregiver expectations.
Getting Started
Ask about current availability and the assessment process.
The team reviews symptoms, safety, history, and family needs.
Discuss the appropriate level of care and available services.
Review benefits, authorization, and potential out-of-pocket costs.
Confirm program fit and discuss enrollment or referrals.
Continuing Care
Planning for ongoing support begins during treatment. As a teen is ready for less intensive care, the team may recommend IOP, outpatient therapy, medication management, family support, or coordination with existing providers.
A transition from PHP to IOP may be considered when clinically appropriate and services are available. Follow-up appointments and coverage require confirmation.
